Sanctity of Life Sunday

“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter” (Proverbs 24:11). This proverb is 3,000 years old, but it is a timely word for today.

This Sunday is marked as Sanctity of Life Sunday as it is close to the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. While we are thankful that this Supreme Court decision was overturned in 2022, it is a grievous reality that abortion continues to increase in Virginia. There is much work to be done, and it is right that we take this Sunday to pray for the end of abortion in our nation.

I strongly encourage you to come for our Sunday School hour this week. Life First, our local pro-life ministry partner, will be giving a ministry report this Sunday at 9:00am in the sanctuary. Becky Sheetz, the CEO of Life First will be sharing with us for the first part of that hour, and we look forward to hearing what God is doing through this ministry in our community. We will conclude that hour with a time of prayer for Life First and for the end of abortion.

As we look at the upcoming legislative docket in Richmond for 2026, this will be a consequential year. To stay up-to-date with what’s unfolding, I recommend that you follow the work of the Family Foundation. Much has happened this past week. Scroll down their homepage page to their “Resources” section, and you will see key issues for this year, including multiple constitutional amendments that will enshrine unlimited abortion, redefine marriage, and insert gender ideology into the Virginia Constitution.

There is great wisdom in the Word of God for times like these, and we will be turning to Proverbs 24 this Sunday to consider what it looks like to build our homes and oppose evil. As we think about all these things, let us give ourselves to prayer. I invite you to read Proverbs 24 in preparation for Sunday and come gather with us to worship the Lord. May He give us wisdom and help us to walk in His ways.

Blessings in Christ,

Pastor Ben
