An Update on Sunday School: From Now Until Fall

An Update on Sunday School

From Now Until Fall

Beginning on July 18 (this Sunday) we are taking a four week “pause" on Sunday School. This pause gives our teachers time to rest and refresh and prepare themselves for teaching in the Fall. Training for children’s and youth workers will begin during the Sunday School hour on August 15. Please plan to join us.

In the mean time, while there is no scheduled teaching during this pause in Sunday School, we encourage all OBC members to redeem the time. Stick around and talk to others. Meet someone new. Invite a new member or visitor out to lunch. Or look for ways to read the Bible with someone else. David Helm’s book One on One Bible Reading is a great book to help you think about this practice.

Indeed, while the church is founded on the gospel preached and the Word taught, body life includes fellowship, prayer, and other opportunities to visit with one another. So take the time to get to know someone new or renew a conversation with someone you have known for a long time.

Sunday School will start again with Great Commission Prayer on Sunday September 5. The following week, September 12,  the adults will be studying OBC’s Statement of Faith. Please put that on your calendar.

Additionally, during these four weeks, there will be two targeted meetings during the Sunday School hour.

First, this Sunday, we are having one final training session for VBS workers. If you are signed up to serve next week and did not go to the last training session, this one is for you. Please meet in Gathering Place at 10:30am.

Second, on Sunday, August 8, we are inviting father’s (and all men) to join the elders for a conversation about raising kids who embrace the wisdom of Proverbs 5–7. Sexual temptation is everywhere, and fathers are called to lead their families in spiritual wisdom and biblical purity. To that end, we want to engage the men of OBC in a conversation about this. So brothers, please join us during the Sunday School on August 1. There will be other opportunities for our whole church body to engage this subject after this meeting.

If you have any questions or thoughts about Sunday School, please talk to one of the elders. We’d love to hear from you.
