Families

OBC Families MinistriesOccoquan Bible Church's ("OBC") Family Ministries exist to glorify God and assist parents in shepherding their children – helping children and families spiritually develop as they experience the Word of God accurately and creatively taught, applied, and modeled in a way that encourages understanding and personal response. For more information about any of our Family Ministries, please contact OBC.

Nursery

The OBC Nursery seeks to provide a nurturing environment where newborns to two year olds have positive first experiences at church by feeling the love of God through adult workers, and to free parents and attendees to worship, fellowship and minister, knowing that their children are safe and cared for. The OBC Nursery is located to the right of the main worship center and is offered during both Sunday morning services and during various other church events (announcements will be made for each event).

Toddlers

The Toddler ministry of OBC exists to teach two and three year olds about Jesus, His love, and what He wants them to do. Our Toddler ministry is known as "Busy Bees." The Busy Bees room is located next to the Nursery, to the right of the main worship center, and is offered during both Sunday morning services.

Elementary

The Elementary Christian Education programs at OBC serve as a tool for parents to utilize in the discipleship of their children. OBC’s Elementary Christian Education program is divided into the following four classes: Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten, 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, and 5th/6th grade. These classes are offered during both Sunday morning services. The classrooms are located in our classroom facilities located in the lower level at OBC (downstairs from the main worship center). Each class utilizes “Children Desiring God” curriculum distributed by Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota (pastored by John Piper). Once children reach the 7th grade, they become part of OBC’s “Youth” program.

During the summer (June – August), the Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten class uses Catechism Club curriculum. 1st - 6th graders are divided into two classes that are offered during both Sunday morning services: 1st - 3rd grade and 4th - 6th grade. These classes use “Walk thru the Bible” curriculum, alternating each summer between the Old and New Testaments. “Walk thru the Bible” curriculum teaches children hand signs that are fun and help them remember what they learn during this Biblical survey course.

AWANA

The AWANA clubs at OBC aim to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and to train them to serve Him. AWANA meets at OBC on Sundays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. from September through May.

GRACE Home School Group

GRACE exists to support home school parents and equip them to fulfill the directives of Deuteronomy 6:1-9 and Ephesians 6:1-4, as an extension ministry of OBC. GRACE sponsors monthly support meetings and field trips, and members can utilize GRACE's email network (e.g., discuss home school curriculum, purchase or sell curriculum, and announce and reserve participation in field trips or other events). Families that are members or regular attendees of OBC may join GRACE for $5 per year. Many GRACE members also participate in the home school Co-Op program OBC hosts. The Co-Op program features a variety of classes for home schooled children of all ages. The classes are hosted at OBC on Fridays from September through May.
