After dissecting Leviticus for 16 months from the pulpit we know prepare to consider the nature, person, and awesome deeds of Jesus through the gospel of John. John will present Jesus as the bread of life, water of life, the door, the way, the truth, the life, the light, and the good shepherd. The book revolves around seven phenomenal miracles done by Jesus. These miracles are tied into seven “ I Am “ statements made by the savior. We will consider each one of these statements and their implications for our lives today.
John down plays his own identity and activities in this gospel. He seems to do so to sharpen the attention on Jesus. John’s main goal is to act as a witness and testifier of Jesus’ nature as perfect man and perfect God! John acts as an eyewitness to the life and miracles of Jesus. This gives John an increased level of credibility and authenticity. We'll also see John the Apostle introduce us to John the Baptist who serves as a witness, a herald, a lamp, a best man, a baptizer and a teacher.
John’s gospel still presents us today with a first hand account of the claims of Jesus. John repeatedly shows that Jesus is who he says He is! Who do we say Jesus is and what will we make of His claims?
