The mission of OBC's Family Ministry is to make disciples of the next generation by joyfully imparting to children a love for God and his gospel, and equipping parents to do the same.
We offer Sunday School for all our children. We also provide child care for children birth to 3 years old during our worship services, including short, structured lessons for the 2-3 year olds during the 11 am service.
Here are the topics by age groups for the upcoming year:
Ages 2 to 3 (Sunday School) - Hands-On Bible Curriculum
Jesus was the master at using creative objects -- like coins, fish, and lilies -- to connect eternal truths to everyday life. With Hands-On Bible Curriculum, kids experience the same powerful connections between Scripture and everyday life by engaging all five of their senses. They experience the truth that the Bible is alive!
Ages 2–3 (11:00am service) and PreK/K - The Gospel Project
The Gospel Project for Kids immerses kids and preschoolers in the gospel through every story, theological concept, and call to mission from Genesis to Revelation. Ultimately, the gospel message changes everything; heart transformation can only take place when a child experiences the gospel. Through The Gospel Project for Kids, kids and preschoolers will understand the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story—God’s story of redemption.
1st/2nd grade - "Faithful To All His Promises"
Faithful to All His Promises is a study for children on the promises of God. Children will not simply learn about some of God's promises, but rather, they will discover what it means to trust in those promises which are God's gift to us, not something we deserve. Faithful to All His Promises begins by teaching children what a promise is, what makes God trustworthy with these promises, and who these promises are for. Then children get to explore some specific promises from God to see how He has been and will be faithful to each of those promises.
3rd/4th grade - "To Be Like Jesus"
What is salvation? How does someone become a Christian? What does it mean to become like Jesus? This curriculum helps answer these important questions by explaining elements of the Gospel message, its purpose, and promise. A major portion of this study focuses on the doctrine of sanctification - the process by which a Christian becomes more and more conformed to the likeness of Jesus.
5th/6th grade - "How Majestic is His Name"
The names of God in the Bible are a reflection of His character, which is so glorious that He cannot be described by a single name. His character is communicated in hundreds of names progressively revealed in the Bible. But the focus of How Majestic Is Your Name is not the many names, titles and references to God. These are merely the structure to show the greatness of our God. Each lesson presents glorious truths about God and encourages students to see and rejoice in His goodness and greatness.
Along with Sunday morning Sunday school and care for our littlest members of our body we are launching a new program:
Gospel | Joy | Discipleship
We are excited to have another way to share the love of Christ and make disciples of our next generation. To learn more or register your child(ren), please visit our NextGen Kids site here.
Safeguarding God's Children
Our children are precious gifts from the Lord. As a family of believers, we believe it is the responsibility of the church to safe guard our children. We provide training to our teachers and other ministry workers who interface with our minor children to ensure that we are being loving stewards of those we are responsible for shepherding.
