Seven Good Words
What makes Good Friday good? Why do Christians celebrate the brutal death of their Savior? And what does the cross have to do with us today?
Generally speaking, the answer to these questions is found in the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. But specifically, the answer is found in the seven words spoken by Christ on the cross. Stapled to a Roman crucifix, the Word made flesh cried out in agony seven statements that give the world hope of forgiveness and peace with God. These words explain what Christ accomplished on the cross and why he had to die.
This Good Friday, we will look at the first word, “Father forgive them, for they know now what they do” (Luke 23:34) and consider how Christ’s intervention on the cross means salvation for the world. Come join us at 7:00pm on Friday, March 30 for a time of singing, prayer, and biblical reflection.
