Pray for our Youth Ministry
This afternoon we are taking 35 youth and leaders up to Pennsylvania for our annual winter retreat which is one of our favorite ministry events of the year. We are driving up this afternoon for a weekend filled with fellowship and teaching at the Greenwood Hills Retreat Center. From Friday evening to Sunday morning we will gather for five sessions of singing, teaching, and small groups as we look at the Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation:
Sola Scriptura: Scripture Alone (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Sola Fide: Faith Alone (Romans 3:23-25)
Sola Gratia: Grace Alone (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Solus Christus: Christ Alone (John 14:6; Acts 4:12)
Soli Deo Gloria: Glory to God Alone (Psalm 115:1; Isaiah 48:11; 1 Corinthians 10:31)
Please pray for this weekend, that the youth would grow in faith and desire to live for the glory of God, and that they would deepen in true friendship and fellowship with their brothers and sisters in Christ.
After we return home on Sunday afternoon, we invite you to continue this retreat’s conversation over the next few weeks with these discussion questions:
- What are some practical ways for your family to more fully embrace the authority and supremacy of God’s Word in your home?
- What does it look like to rest in Christ’s righteousness instead of our own?
- What does the gift of unearned, unmerited, undeserved grace for salvation reveal to us about ourselves and God?
- What does it mean that Christ lives in us (Galatians 2:20) and that salvation is found in Him alone?
- How might we connect our view of salvation, home, work, church, and everyday to the glory of God?
Coming Up This Year
Sunday Mornings: Our Sunday morning class (10:00am) is currently studying the book of Acts and will conclude toward the end of Spring. After this we will continue in the New Testament with the book of Romans.
Tuesday Evenings: This coming Tuesday evening (February 21) we are beginning a new 12 week series on church history. Come and join us for this fast paced study as we learn about the “great cloud of witnesses” who have gone before us. After that, our next series will take us through the Apostle’s Creed (an ancient confession of faith), the Ten Commandments (how does the Law relate to the Gospel?), and the Lord’s Prayer.
Pray that God would give us wisdom as we consider summer missions opportunities, and we will inform you of our plans in the next few weeks.
Last, if there is any way that I or other youth leaders can walk alongside you as you parent and disciple your children, please let us know. We would be glad to meet with you, pray with you, and help in any way that we’re able.
Back to This Weekend
The first cars are off and heading up to PA for our winter retreat. Please pray that the truth of God's Word would transform and sanctify us this weekend, and that this time of fellowship and learning would bear good fruit to the glory of God!
Also, please note that there will be no Sunday school class for youth this Sunday. We invite those of you who will be at OBC this Sunday to attend the adult class in the sanctuary at 10:00am. I’ll see some of you in PA in a few hours, and looking forward to seeing the rest of you on Tuesday!
Wherever we are this weekend, may we have great joy to hear God's voice in His Word!
