April 2017 Shepherd's Letter
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Looking back at this past month, the Easter Season has been refreshing as we have focused on the Gospel of our crucified and risen Lord. From Good Friday to Easter Sunday, our continued look at the resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15, and our youth trip to the theater to watch “The Case for Christ,” it has been good for the truth of the resurrection to be present in our minds and hearts.
Thank you to all who served at our Easter Family Outreach, and we invite you to join with us in prayer for those who attended, that the hearing of the Gospel would bear fruit. We praise God for the gospel testimonies of those who were baptized, and we are thankful for the brothers and sisters we have welcomed into our church family.
Earlier this last month, ten men from OBC traveled to Indianapolis for The Gospel Coalition Conference (April 3-5). We invite you to watch the recorded sessions and workshops that are now available online.
Men, we invite you to attend a Simeon Trust Workshop which will be hosted at Del Ray Baptist Church (May 10-12). This is a great opportunity to grow in your understanding of how to read and teach the Bible.
Women, we invite you to attend our first Women’s Breakfast & Bible Study on Saturday, May 13. In celebration of Mother’s Day, the men’s ministry will be cooking and serving you a hot breakfast. We hope that this will be a particular blessing to you if your season of life makes it difficult to commit to a regular weekly Bible study. With in-depth teaching and discussion on specific topics, think of it as a mini-conference! Pastor David Schrock will be teaching on the Unfolding Drama of Scripture through the Old Testament.
Preparations for Community VBS are underway. We have enough host homes, but could use some more volunteers as we seek to share the love of Christ with the children through our community. Please contact the church office (firstname.lastname@example.org) to learn how you can serve.
In addition to that, we are continuing our discussion about increasing our ministry offerings for children this Fall. Pray with us for wisdom as we consider this need, and please consider serving in this ministry area. If you are interested, please contact Pastor Jared Bridges (email@example.com).
Our budget report for March is complete. The gap between our expenses and income improved slightly over this last month, but we still have a deficit. Please consider how you might be generous to support OBC’s ministry of the Gospel. As an Elder Board, we remain committed to not incurring debt, and we are working on a financial plan as we seek to be good stewards of what He has provided. Please join with us in prayer that the Lord would provide for OBC’s financial needs.
And as we continue to study the promise of resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15, may God strengthen our confidence and increase our joy in the sure hope of all things made new.
Grace and peace to you,
on behalf of the Elders
